March blog post

Writer: Gemma BradshawGemma Bradshaw

So far so good! I got out yesterday for some plein-air painting with some other inspirational artists! Thankful for their company and helpful expertise while I painted this. It was great to paint alongside Rod Major, Will Bond, David Atherton and David Upton. This is the view of Folkestone from the battle of Britain war memorial, in Capel-Le-Ferne.

I have also been continuing with previous art projects like some oil paintings. My lemon, A self portrait and commissioned painting.

After finally getting a great shot and asking for advice on where best to paint the pet, today I have started working on painting Jet the dog on the landscape.

Firstly I'm painting Jet in a basic tonal study using black and white to create the various shadows and highlights. I'm thinking I will leave this initial layer to go touch dry before I add more detail and the various subtle colour hues.

I have also finished other paintings recently and have some to varnish and some to frame.

I have started a new painting, because my orchid flowered beautifully and I just wanted to capture the perfect peace of it.

I've also been out seeing other artists work and listening to live music, spending time with friends and family as well as running and walking enjoying nature. Also spending time art journaling, reading and continuing to learn to play guitar.

I think part of being an artist is in experiencing life and I have had more energy recently, now the light has been better with longer days to get out and enjoy things.

I will be at Follestone art market next month, and in May too. I am preparing prints and paintings to sell there. Please come if you can, there is going to be lots of various things to see and do.

Save these dates and come along if you can! I will be there with my artwork, some paintings to see but also some more affordable giclee art prints, and printed items like my bags, tops and mugs. Some handmade cards too!

Looking forward to this, and in doing more now winter is behind us.

Take care,

Thanks for reading.
