Valentines day Roses 8x6 inches
This painting was painted on Valentines Day, 2024. I bought three bunches of red roses, a bunch for myself and two to gift. I love roses and their symbolism, the concept of valentine’s day giving and receiving love. I felt these looked best and had a lovely romantic feel at night, so I chose to paint in the evening, with a dark blue background like that of the sky at night. I painted these alla-prima with oil paints (wet on wet) and in one sitting. I used thick bold brush impressionist style painting for this still life which gave the painted roses some texture. I love buying or being given flowers to paint, I love the painting being bought from me also. The taught of it being enjoyed by someone else, of sharing the lovingly made artwork, or of it being given as a gift after being bought. It's nice to capture the beauty of flowers in a more permanent way, a gift of a painting can be enjoyed for years when flowers fade. The oil painting was left to dry for many months before I applied a gloss varnish which protects the painting from damage and keeps the paints vivid colour. This painting has a lovely gold frame which when viewed closely has beautiful, tiny details of red and blue marks which complement the painting. The painting in signed on the back with my signature, logo sticker, date, title and details of medium and material used.
